Everything you need to know about Radial Blur

Radial Blur creates dynamic blur effects that radiate from a center point. Choose between Zoom blur (streaks toward/away from center, like a camera dolly) or Spin blur (circular motion around center, like a rotating camera). Both create dramatic, eye-catching motion effects.

Modes

  • Zoom
Creates blur streaks that radiate outward from the center point, simulating rapid camera zoom or forward/backward motion. The blur intensity increases toward the edges while the center remains relatively sharp.
  • Spin
Creates circular motion blur around the center point, simulating rotation or spinning. The blur follows a circular path, with intensity increasing further from the center.

Parameters

  • Strength
Controls the intensity of the blur effect (0%–100%). Low values (10–20%) create subtle motion hints. Higher values (40–100%) produce dramatic, pronounced blur trails.
  • Center X
Sets the horizontal position of the blur center (0%–100%). 0% is the left edge, 50% is the center, 100% is the right edge.
  • Center Y
Sets the vertical position of the blur center (0%–100%). 0% is the top edge, 50% is the center, 100% is the bottom edge.

How It Works

The filter samples 24 points along either a radial line (Zoom mode) or a circular arc (Spin mode) centered on each pixel. These samples are averaged together, creating smooth motion blur that intensifies with distance from the center point.

Tips

  • Position the center on your subject to keep it sharp while blurring the surroundings
  • Zoom blur is great for simulating speed, action, or dramatic focus
  • Spin blur works well for creating vertigo, rotation, or hypnotic effects
  • Use lower strength (15–30%) for subtle energy, higher for dramatic impact
