Everything you need to know about Bloom
Bloom adds a soft, dreamy glow around bright areas of your image. This effect simulates the light bleed seen in photography and cinematography, making highlights appear to radiate light. Perfect for creating atmospheric, romantic, or cinematic looks.
Parameters
- Blend Mode
Screen: Creates a natural, film-like glow that never over-brightens. Add: Produces a more intense, potentially blown-out effect for dramatic results. - Strength
Controls how much of the bloom effect is blended into the image. At 0, no glow is visible. At 1.0, the full effect is applied. - Threshold
Sets the brightness cutoff for which pixels will glow. Higher values (0.8–1.0) affect only the brightest highlights. Lower values (0.3–0.5) make more of the image glow. - Knee
Softens the transition at the threshold. Higher values create a gradual fade into the glow, avoiding harsh cutoffs between glowing and non-glowing areas. - Radius
Controls the size of the glow. Small values (1–3) create a tight halo. Larger values (10–20) produce wide, diffuse light spreading. - Intensity
Multiplies the brightness of the glow. Use values above 1.0 for a stronger, more visible bloom. Values up to 8.0 allow for extreme glowing effects.
Tips
- Use high threshold with moderate radius for subtle, realistic highlight glow
- Lower the threshold and increase intensity for a dreamy, soft-focus look
- Screen mode is generally more natural; Add mode works well for sci-fi or neon effects
