Everything you need to know about AI Upscale
AI Upscale uses machine learning super-resolution to intelligently enlarge your image while adding genuine detail. Unlike standard resampling which just interpolates pixels, AI upscaling analyzes your image and synthesizes realistic detail, textures, and edges at higher resolutions.
Parameters
- Upscale Factor
Choose how much to enlarge your image:- 2× (Double) – Doubles both dimensions (4× total pixels)
- 4× (Quadruple) – Quadruples both dimensions (16× total pixels)
- 8× – Eight times larger (64× total pixels)
- 16× – Sixteen times larger (256× total pixels)
Size Information
The dialog shows your current image dimensions and the calculated result size. The maximum output is 8,000 × 8,000 pixels. If your chosen factor would exceed this limit, you'll need to select a smaller upscale factor or resize your source image first.
How It Works
Your image is sent to an AI processing server that uses deep learning models trained on millions of images. The AI recognizes patterns, textures, and edges in your image and generates plausible high-resolution detail that wasn't in the original. This produces much sharper results than traditional bicubic or Lanczos resampling.
Best Use Cases
- Small photos – Enlarge old or low-resolution photos for printing
- Cropped images – Restore resolution lost to heavy cropping
- Web images – Upscale downloaded images for high-resolution use
- Print preparation – Increase resolution to meet print DPI requirements
Tips
- Start with 2× and apply multiple times if needed – often better than one large jump
- AI upscaling works best on photos; graphics and text may produce artifacts
- Processing time increases with larger factors – be patient with 8× and 16×
- Clean images upscale better – consider denoising heavily compressed images first
