Everything you need to know about Duotone

Duotone maps your image's brightness values to a gradient between two colors. Dark areas take on the shadow color, bright areas take on the highlight color, and everything in between smoothly blends the two. This creates striking, graphic designs popular in posters, music artwork, and modern branding.

Parameters

  • Shadow Color
The color applied to dark areas of the image. Click to open a color picker and choose any color. Darker, richer colors work well here.
  • Highlight Color
The color applied to bright areas of the image. Lighter, vibrant colors create nice contrast with the shadow color.
  • Intensity
Controls how much of the duotone effect is applied. At 0%, the original colors are preserved. At 100%, the full duotone effect is visible. Use intermediate values to blend the effect subtly with the original image.

Presets

  • Ocean — Deep purple to cyan
  • Sunset — Charcoal to golden orange
  • Red — Black to vibrant red
  • Navy — Deep blue gradient
  • Teal — Dark slate to turquoise
  • Purple Gold — Rich purple to warm gold
  • Classic — Dark gray to off-white
  • Green — Teal to bright green

Tips

  • High-contrast images with clear subjects work best
  • Try complementary colors (opposite on the color wheel) for vibrant results
  • Use similar colors (analogous) for a more subtle, sophisticated look
  • Great for creating consistent branding across multiple images
