Everything you need to know about Channel Mixer

Channel Mixer gives you complete control over how the red, green, and blue color channels are combined. Each output channel can be rebuilt from any combination of the input channels, enabling powerful color corrections, creative color effects, and custom black & white conversions.

Parameters

  • Red Output (From R, G, B)
Defines how much of each original channel contributes to the new red channel. Default is 100% from Red, 0% from Green and Blue.
  • Green Output (From R, G, B)
Defines how much of each original channel contributes to the new green channel. Default is 100% from Green, 0% from Red and Blue.
  • Blue Output (From R, G, B)
Defines how much of each original channel contributes to the new blue channel. Default is 100% from Blue, 0% from Red and Green.
  • Mix
Blends the channel-mixed result with the original image. At 0, no change is visible. At 1.0, the full effect is applied.

How It Works

Each slider ranges from -2.0 to +2.0. Positive values add that channel's brightness to the output. Negative values subtract it. For example, setting Red Output to "From R: 0.3, From G: 0.6, From B: 0.1" creates a luminance-weighted grayscale in the red channel.

Tips

  • For custom B&W: Set all three outputs to the same mix (e.g., R:0.4, G:0.4, B:0.2 for all channels)
  • Swap channels for creative color effects (e.g., move Red→Blue, Blue→Red)
  • Use negative values to create dramatic color inversions or cross-processing looks
  • Keep the sum of each row near 1.0 to maintain overall brightness
