Everything you need to know about Auto Refine

Auto Refine improves your image's contrast locally. Unlike traditional contrast adjustments, it analyzes small regions of the image individually. The result: details in both dark and bright areas become visible simultaneously, without making the image look unnatural.

Parameters

  • Clip Limit
Controls the strength of contrast adjustment. Low values (1–2) produce subtle improvements. Higher values (5–10) increase contrast significantly, but may amplify image noise.
  • Tile Size X / Y
Determines the size of image regions analyzed individually. Smaller values (2–4) emphasize fine local details. Larger values (16–32) produce a smoother, more natural look.

Tips

  • Ideal for underexposed photos or images with strong shadows
  • Start with default values and adjust the Clip Limit as needed
  • For portraits: use lower values for a natural result
